Apache is a native American language. The "western" dialect is one of several in current use in different locations.  12,693 speakers (1990 census), including 303 San Carlos. East central Arizona, several reservations. Na-Dene, Nuclear Na-Dene, Athapaskan-Eyak, Athapaskan, Apachean, Navajo-Apache, Western Apache-Navajo. Dialects: WHITE MOUNTAIN, SAN CARLOS, CIBECUE, TONTO. Language use is vigorous
