Egyptian
Egypt's language is one of the oldest languages in the world. It was first written down towards the end of the fourth millennium. However it was changed over time. Their first language, Old Egyptian was started in 2650 B.C.. Old Egyptian was replaced in 2185 B.C. by Middle Egyptian. Middle Egyptian lasted 435 years until it was replaced in 1550 B.C. by Late Egyptian. After Late Egyptian, Demotic came along. It lasted from 700 B.C. to the fifth century A.D.

The last of the languages before Modern Egyptian was probably one of the most known languages. Coptic is the last stage of the Ancient Egyptian language. It was written using the Greek alphabet, with some additional characters for sounds unknown to Greek, and was mainly used by the Egyptian Christians. Next to the writing, Coptic was also influenced by Greek in its vocabulary. It was gradually replaced as a spoken language by Arabic from the Arab conquest of Egypt in 640 AD on and is now only used as a liturgical language (such as Latin in Europe was during the Middle-Ages).

The language used by modern Egyptians is Arabic
