Latvian
Latvian is the national language of Latvia.  Latvia is one of the three Baltic countries located on the eastern shore of the Baltic sea. The country has a population of about 2.7 million people, of whom about 54% are native speakers of Latvian, an Indo-European language in the Baltic subgroup of languages. Of the three Baltic countries, Latvia has suffered the most from Soviet-era Russian immigration. However, since the regaining of its independence in 1991, the proportion of Latvians in the country has been increasing, together with the percentage of native Russian speakers who are sending their children to Latvian schools. Despite its past hardships, the language is still very much alive and well.

There are about 1,500,000 total speakers.  Most of these are in Latvia, with small numbers in; Russia, Ukraine, Lithuania, Estonia, Belarus, United States, Canada, Australia, Germany, Sweden, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Brazil & Venezuela.
