Valencian
Catalan is a Romance Language of the West branch. It has over 4,000,000 mother tongue speakers in Spain, plus several hundred thousand in, France, Italy, Andorra (official language) and the USA.  It is quite similar to the Occitan language.

Valencian can be considered an independent group because of political and linguistic independence movements in the area of Valencia. In fact, within Valencian, we find two very phonetically distinguished subdialects: Castellonese, and in the south, Alicantino, or Meridional Valencian.
