The Laureate 4-20 mA thermocouple transmitter provides a linearized, highly accurate, stable and repeatable transmitter output for thermocouple types J, K, T, E, N, R or S. The thermocouple or RTD type and temperature range, specified in °C or °F, are user-selectable. The temperature range can be as wide as the entire span of the thermocouple type, or as narrow as 150 counts, limited only by considerations of electrical noise and digital filtering time constants. Digital calibration of all thermocouple ranges is performed the factory, with calibration data stored in EEPROM on the signal conditioner board. This allows signal conditioner boards and ranges to be changed in the field with no need for recalibration.

Pt 100 platinum RTDs can have a DIN alpha of 0.00385 or ANSI alpha of 0.00392. The RTD type and temperature range, specified in °C or °F, are user-selectable. The highest resolution is 0.2 µs, making the transmitter ideal for fast events. The longest timing interval is 999,999 hrs. There are two primary timing modes:A-A Stopwatch Mode. Time is measured between a start pulse and a stop pulse, both on Channel A, from either the positive or negative edges. A-B Stopwatch Mode. Time is measured between a start pulse on Channel A and stop pulse on Channel B (positive or negative edge).

The 4-20 mA output of the Laureate duty cycle transmitter tracks ON or OFF period as a percentage from 0% to 100% of total period of repetitive pulse trains. In the illustration, duty cycle is 100 x t/P. The transmitter determines duty cycle by averaging an integral number of periods over a gate time, which is selectable from 10 ms to 199.99 s. The same signal is applied to Channels A and B. The meter divides the average pulse width by the period between pulses and expresses this ratio in percent. A resolution of 1%, 0.1% or 0.01% is selectable. By selecting leading or falling pulse edges, the ON or OFF duty cycle can be transmitted.Duty cycle measurement is used to monitor modulated proportional control systems and pulse-modulated systems.
